About Us

The Bluebird Approach was conceived and founded by Jake Simmonds in 2023. With a decade of experience in education, mentorship, and coaching, he saw the need for a framework for mental and emotional wellness that fit the following criteria:

  • based on research, observation, and a touch of intuition

  • applicable by everyone at any stage of life

  • sought to uniquely address trends and issues in our culture

  • was uplifting and empowering

After several years of midnight journaling, research deep dives, and a million conversations with people from all walks of life, The Bluebird Approach was hatched (excuse the pun).

The three core principles that inform the approach and the client experience are:

  1. Compassionate reflection. This involves being kind to ourselves as we think about our lives. Reflection, especially the truly honest kind, can be difficult. But if we treat ourselves with compassion as we address the difficulties holding us back, we won't be hindered by negative self-talk. It also involves active journaling, especially gratitude journaling, for the duration of the client experience.

  2. Resilient mentality. The research on resilience is beyond compelling. Those who can develop and maintain the trait of resilience fare better on essentially every measurable life outcome, including physical and mental health. Helping clients develop this mindset is essential to the continued growth of each individual.

  3. Practical action. Conversations about our challenges open our minds and help us see things clearly, but we cannot stop there. We will strategize with clients to find out what actions are truly helpful, but also practical. Growth comes as we actually work toward becoming our best selves.
